Road to I Love Techno

After a summer plenty of emotions we would like to announce that we are going to I Love Techno. The Belgian festival will take place at Ghent the 8th of November. There are two main reasons for choosing this festival for closing the festival season. The first one, we went there last year and it was amazing. The second one is an extraordinary line-up that contains most of the best electronic music Djs and groups of today.

First of all, before commenting a little bit the line-up, we want to explain the structure of this techno festival. There are 5 main rooms differentiated by colours and music, black, red, blue, yellow and green, and then, probably it will be the Red Bull room. The black room will harbor the most underground electronic music, being Pfirter, who is the biggest representation of South America, and Paula Temple, who is going to ILT to present the special HYBRID AV show, the most well-known artists. The red and blue room will be characterized by the purest techno music, from Paul Kalkbrenner to Jeff Mills or from Jamie Jones to Dave Clarke. We don’t know if it is important to mention something about the lineup of these two rooms because we think that all people know the artists that will play there and the shows they can offer. Be patient when you try to enter to these rooms because the crowd of the entrances.

The green room will take place the performances of Klangkarussell or Clean Bandit with more melodic sounds, because the genres of this room will be house, pop, tech-house or deep sounds. Finally, the most impressive room. The yellow room will harbor b2b performances all night plus the performance of Boys Noize who has organized this room, and we suppose that the sounds will be characterized by electro and acid genres . After Sonar 2012, a lot of people would like to listen to the b2b of Brodinski and Gesaffelstein, it can be one of the best moments of this ILT edition. On the other hand, the b2b of Audion and Tiga has generated a lot of expectations because their performances at Sonar this year. And, then, the set of Boys Noize, we think it doesn’t need any explanations because it will be the 5th time this year we see a set of the German producer.

So, we are expecting the 8th of November to live all these awesome performances. You have some days to decide to go there because ILT 2014 will be amazing!

*******************************************************************************************************

Review: Monegros Desert festival 20th Anniversary

After some hours of travelling by car and the big queue we found on the entrance of the parking, finally, we were in the middle of the desert (in the middle of nowhere) suffering the burning sun and going to the entrance of the festival. We started the big rave with one of the important names of the line-up: Carl Cox. He mixed rhythms that didn’t let us to be relaxed at any time and he was so lively, encouraging the people that were filling the stage with the well-known “Oh yes oh yes Monegros!”. Then we had to abandon the set of him because we wanted to enjoy the tech-house of Jamie Jones who was brilliant. His set was a little bit harder than we expected and with rising and danceable rhythms. The people of elRow stage were totally dedicated and the sunset was one of the best moments of the festival.

We returned to the Burn stage, which was plenty of people, for seeing the closing of Dave Clarke who was mixing dark and hard techno sounds. Then, at 23h, Boys Noize appeared on the stage after some years from his last performance at Monegros. He conquered the dance floor with a set that was so similar than the Sónar Festival one, but at any time we felt that it was repetitive or boring. When that set finished, the main stage was divided into 2 parts. On the first one, the organization was building the structure where Skrillex would do his performance. On the other part, Gaiser, from the Minus Records, was mixing a good live with minimal and tech-house, being characteristic of the artist and the record. He didn’t mind the things that were going on the other part of the stage.

We have to talk about Skrillex, and if we have to explain the entire things that we lived there we will need a unique post for the blog. We have been going to that festival for 9 years, we are lovers of the techno scene and we have seen the most important djs of the electronic music scene acting on that stage, but the performance that Skrillex did there was awesome and unique. Nowadays, he is one of the main artists of the EDM and dubstep scene and he demonstrated it on that enormous ship. We agree that his music is a mixture of screeching sounds and vocal loops, but all together seems to be exciting and satisfactory for us. The most orgasmic moment was when Asap Rocky appeared on the stage for performing Wild for the night.

After that, Feed Me should act but the artist didn’t appear on the stage because he cancelled the performance. Recently, he has post on his twitter account that he had never been confirmed for the festival. So, we went to elRow stage for seeing the closing of Paco Osuna and part of the set of Dog Blood (Skrillex b2b Boys Noize). The set didn’t sound as the productions that they have made, there wasn’t acid or chaos of the drops, it seemed that somebody had told them to be a little bit quiet, but we could enjoy that kind of music that the two genius were mixing. Then, the moment most expected of the festival arrived, after 7 years Mistress Barbara returned to the desert. The Queen of the desert had prepared a Special Techno Old School Set, and we danced and danced without taking care that the bass drums were sounding so bad. The stage became a big party and was filled by the happiness of the participants.

For mention the last acts, we saw Joseph Capriati who was breaking the Burn Open Air with hard house while the sun was appearing behind us. Then Chris Liebing offered to the people the hard sounds that they needed at that hour, and finally, Ben Sims. He offered a special closing set that was plenty of the main hits that had sounded in Monegros the last 10 years.

It is true that we left the festival with a strange sensation, we had enjoyed the night a lot, but we knew the festival had bet on the multitude that wanted to see Skrillex, Aoki or elRow scene. We think that we must be ready for seeing a big change on the biggest rave of the desert.

*******************************************************************************

The last day of the festival arrived. We knew the number of hours that we had during all day and the hours we had spent the days before, so we decided to arrive at Sónar at 4pm. We spent so many hours looking to the sky and asking ourselves when the weather would change because there were dark clouds coming from the Mediterranean Sea.

We entered to the festival, so we completed the tricolour Sónar bracelets of the Sonar Full Pass (that thing needs a change, only one bracelet is needed for all festival). When we arrived at SonarVillage we had the pleasure of listening to the South Africans Spoek Mathambo, they were emitting a so good positive energy to the public due to the continuous changes of musical styles.

Our desire was to see the live of Kid Koala at that stage, but we had enough time for going to Despacio. The atmosphere created by Dewaele brothers and James Murphy was authentic, like a disco of the 80’s with the artists playing vinyls in a second scene without interacting with the public. But the temperature and the crowd of the room caused our exit to outdoors. 5.30pm arrived and the live of Kid Koala at SonarVillage started. On one hand we have to recognise that he is a master of the scratch style, on the other hand we think that he was suffering the heat inside that koala costume. He controlled the plates all the moments, there were continuous changes of rhythms, he interacted so much with the public, so, all of that caused a huge excitation to the participants. The SonarVillage was full of happiness.

After the live of the canadian, we went to the SonarHall where Audion was acting. We had so much expectation about the American Dj. When we arrived it seemed to go perfectly, with the mixture of a great techno and an incredible lights show. But immediately, we realized that the sound of the room was emitting strange interferences, so we decided to return to the main stage. There was mixing DJ2D2, a great artist playing with only a two channel Traktor that was offering a delicious tech-house. At that hour it was welcomed that kind of music, so the set happened so quickly without realising about the time.

Finally, before going to recover energies, we went to SonarDôme to see the live of TOKiMONSTA. First, she mixed a calm dubstep, but she changed so quickly to rhythms with strength and velocity, transforming the room into an authentic party.

We went to recover energies, and as always, we couldn’t see the artists of the closing of Sonar by Day, and the artists of the opening of Sonar by Night. We arrived at Sonar by Night at 1am, so we could see the alter ego of Audion, Matthew Dear, at SonarClub. The American artist showed his darkest face with an interesting mix of techno and tech-deep. The 2am arrived, and the main stage was being filled by the 15 artists that take part of Rudimental. The group of UK turned the room into a big party where all their best tracks sounded. But the sound of the stage was not precise and their live was so poor in comparison with our expectations. In addition, the experience was so nice.

After that concert, we moved to SonarLab where Daphni b2b James Holden were acting. It was an authentic surprise for our senses. It sounded all the music genres characteristics of both artists being mixed perfectly. We didn’t stay till the final because we had in our mind the three artists that would play at SonarPub: Brodinski, Boys Noize and Tiga. First, the French Dj offered a good set plenty of techno, electro, a little flash of acid, and his characteristic hip-hop sounds. Around 4am, Alex Ridha appeared on the stage, and with that one, it was the third time of the season that we saw the German artist. He didn’t let down, moreover, it was epic (we were dancing part of the set over an intense storm). There was a sentence that defined the set: “Don’t let me to lose a performance of Boys Noize never again!”. Finally, with the rain as mate, Tiga arrived on the stage to offer the closing set of Sonar 2014. It was awesome, the Canadian Dj was at the cutting edge of the event playing a set plenty of electro, house and techno, and he showed to the participants why he has been in the electronic music scene around 20 years.

So much thanks Sonar 2014! See you at Sonar 2015!

Monegros announces first artists

Strange could be the word that better defines the situation of Monegros Desert Festival this year, and even more if we know that this is the 20th birthday of the fest. The tickets have gone on sale too late and the first confirmations have arrived when other festivals show their full line-up. But finally, here we have the first four additions to the biggest rave of the desert!

Skrillex: His name appears as the main artist, and he deserved it after his great show last year at Sónar 2013 and after his four performances with the poster of SOLD OUT in the tour Skrillex Takes Over Barcelona, this young artist will offer an exclusive show, because he will not act in other fests in Spain on this 2014

Steve Aoki: In our opinion, the worst of the four confirmations. He was one of the pioneers of EDM in our country, and now he has forgotten the music to focus on being a showman. Without doubt it will be an energetic session, full of EDM, Big Room, cakes and flying boats.

Boys Noize: After his performance on 12 April at Florida 135, we had no doubt that Alex Ridha will be at Monegros 3 years after his last performance at the desert, and we have no doubt that he will be one of the most remembered names after the fest.

Carl Cox: Classic among classics, great among greats, Carl Cox represents the essence of techno in this fest. One of the most veteran Dj in the international scene will head the most classic section at MDF, his techno will lift us to the skies.

We do not know when new confirmations are provided, but we will be ready to tell you all the news!
