After some hours of travelling by car and the big queue we found on the entrance of the parking, finally, we were in the middle of the desert (in the middle of nowhere) suffering the burning sun and going to the entrance of the festival. We started the big rave with one of the important names of the line-up: Carl Cox. He mixed rhythms that didn’t let us to be relaxed at any time and he was so lively, encouraging the people that were filling the stage with the well-known “Oh yes oh yes Monegros!”. Then we had to abandon the set of him because we wanted to enjoy the tech-house of Jamie Jones who was brilliant. His set was a little bit harder than we expected and with rising and danceable rhythms. The people of elRow stage were totally dedicated and the sunset was one of the best moments of the festival.
We returned to the Burn stage, which was plenty of people, for seeing the closing of Dave Clarke who was mixing dark and hard techno sounds. Then, at 23h, Boys Noize appeared on the stage after some years from his last performance at Monegros. He conquered the dance floor with a set that was so similar than the Sónar Festival one, but at any time we felt that it was repetitive or boring. When that set finished, the main stage was divided into 2 parts. On the first one, the organization was building the structure where Skrillex would do his performance. On the other part, Gaiser, from the Minus Records, was mixing a good live with minimal and tech-house, being characteristic of the artist and the record. He didn’t mind the things that were going on the other part of the stage.
We have to talk about Skrillex, and if we have to explain the entire things that we lived there we will need a unique post for the blog. We have been going to that festival for 9 years, we are lovers of the techno scene and we have seen the most important djs of the electronic music scene acting on that stage, but the performance that Skrillex did there was awesome and unique. Nowadays, he is one of the main artists of the EDM and dubstep scene and he demonstrated it on that enormous ship. We agree that his music is a mixture of screeching sounds and vocal loops, but all together seems to be exciting and satisfactory for us. The most orgasmic moment was when Asap Rocky appeared on the stage for performing Wild for the night.
After that, Feed Me should act but the artist didn’t appear on the stage because he cancelled the performance. Recently, he has post on his twitter account that he had never been confirmed for the festival. So, we went to elRow stage for seeing the closing of Paco Osuna and part of the set of Dog Blood (Skrillex b2b Boys Noize). The set didn’t sound as the productions that they have made, there wasn’t acid or chaos of the drops, it seemed that somebody had told them to be a little bit quiet, but we could enjoy that kind of music that the two genius were mixing. Then, the moment most expected of the festival arrived, after 7 years Mistress Barbara returned to the desert. The Queen of the desert had prepared a Special Techno Old School Set, and we danced and danced without taking care that the bass drums were sounding so bad. The stage became a big party and was filled by the happiness of the participants.
For mention the last acts, we saw Joseph Capriati who was breaking the Burn Open Air with hard house while the sun was appearing behind us. Then Chris Liebing offered to the people the hard sounds that they needed at that hour, and finally, Ben Sims. He offered a special closing set that was plenty of the main hits that had sounded in Monegros the last 10 years.
It is true that we left the festival with a strange sensation, we had enjoyed the night a lot, but we knew the festival had bet on the multitude that wanted to see Skrillex, Aoki or elRow scene. We think that we must be ready for seeing a big change on the biggest rave of the desert.

Después de varias horas de viaje dentro del coche y de una cola que parecía interminable, por fin estábamos en medio del desierto, dirigiéndonos bajo un Sol abrasador a la entrada para poder comenzar la fiesta con uno de los primeros cabezas de cartel que fueron anunciados: Carl Cox. En su línea, muy animado, con ritmazos que no permitían bajar los brazos en ningún momento, y animando a la gente del desierto con su ya más que conocido “Oh yes oh yes Monegros!”, pero nosotros tuvimos que abandonarlo para poder disfrutar del británico Jamie Jones, con su tech-house algo más duro de lo que podemos estar acostumbrados para este estilo musical. Fue brillante, la sesión llevo en todo momento un ritmo ascendente y muy muy bailable, la gente del escenario de elRow stage estaba totalmente entregada y la puesta de sol con ese escenario fue uno de los mejores momentos de la noche.
Y regresamos al Burn stage, o escenario principal, para terminar de ver al maestro del techno oscuro Dave Clarke, duro, contundente y con la pista a rebosar de gente. Acto seguido, a las 23:00, volvimos a ver sobre el escenario principal de Monegros a Boys Noize, varios años después de su última aparición, y puso la pista del revés con una sesión muy parecida a la de Sónar Barcelona, pero que en ningún momento se nos pudo hacer repetitiva o pesada. Terminó, y el escenario principal se dividió en dos, dejando a un lado a Gaiser del sello Minus mientras montaban el artefacto donde actuaría Skrillex, però a Gaiser no le debió importar mucho, ya que su actuación fue genial, sonidos característicos de Minus y del propio artista, un minimal con aires tech-house.
Nos toca hablar de Skrillex, y si tuviéramos que explicar lo que allí vivimos, necesitaríamos un post en el blog únicamente para ello. Llevamos 9 años seguidos asistiendo a este festival, somos amantes del techno incondicionalmente y hemos visto a lo mejor del mundo de la electrónica actuar sobre el escenario principal del desierto, pero lo que hizo Skrillex allí está a la altura de muy pocas actuaciones. Bestial, colosal, enorme, es el gigante del EDM y el dubstep en estos momento y demostró porqué a los mandos de su nave espacial. Podemos estar de acuerdo en que su música se basa en sonidos chirriantes y en loops de vocales que va lanzando a discreción, pero todo junto es adrenalínico y el resultado, al menos para nosotros, fue muy satisfactorio, llegando a rozar el orgasmo cuando Asap Rocky se subió al escenario para interpretar Wild for the night.
Acto seguido le tocaba a Feed Me, pero el artista no apareció por una cancelación de última hora, aunque recientemente hemos podido leer en su twitter que él nunca había estado confirmado para ese festival. Así que nos dirigimos de nuevo a elRow stage para ver el final de Paco Osuna y un buen rato del set de Dog Blood (Skrillex b2b Boys Noize). No sonaba igual que en sus producciones de estudio, no había tanto acid ni tanto descontrol en el drop, parecía que alguien les había dicho “chicos, no lo rompáis todo” y ellos le hicieron caso. Pero aún así, disfrutamos de la música y bailamos al ritmo de las cuatro manos de los dos genios. Y llegó el momento de uno de los reencuentros que más estábamos esperando: 7 años después, Mistress Barbara volvía a reinar en el desierto con un Special Techno Old School Set. Y bailamos y seguimos bailando sin importarnos que el bombo sonara fatal, o que se le notaran un par de caballitos mezclando pistas, da igual, la alegría que allí se podía palpar no la habíamos encontrado por ninguna otra parte del festival.
Ya para las últimas actuaciones, vimos a Joseph Capriati reventar el Burn Open Air con un house muy duro mientras el Sol ya se asomaba por nuestras espaldas, y para acabar de acompañarnos hasta el lecho de muerte, allí estaba Chris Liebing, incombustible, sabía que la gente a esas horas necesitaba bombo y ritmazos y se lo dio, hasta que llegó Ben Sims para sustituirlo con un set repleto de TEMAZOS que habían sonado en el desierto a lo largo de los 10 últimos años.
Cierto es que nos fuimos de allí con una sensación un poco extraña, habíamos disfrutado al máximo de la noche, es cierto, pero este año el desierto se había vendido un poco a las masas que acompañan a Skrillex, a Aoki, y al movimiento de elRow, así que podríamos ir preparándonos para un cambio progresivo en lo que hasta ahora ha sido la mayor rave del desierto.

Després de diverses hores de viatges tancats al cotxe, i d'una cua que semblava no acabar mai, per fi ens trobàvem enmig del desert, caminant sota un Sol abrasador cap a l'entrada del festival per començar a gaudir amb un dels primers caps de cartell que van ser anunciats per l'organització: Carl Cox. Actuació en la seva línia, molt animat, molt feliç, amb ritmes molt ballables que no et deixaven descansar ni un instant, i animant constantment a la gent del desert amb el seu conegudíssim “Oh yes oh yes Monegros!”, però nosaltres vam haver d'abandonar-lo per poder veure al britànic Jamie Jones, amb el seu tech-house sovint més dur del que podem estar acostumats per aquest tipus d'estil musical. Va ser brillant, la sessió va portar en tot moment un ritme ascendent i molt molt ballable, i la gent que estava a l'escenari de elRow stage estava totalment entregada, i la posta de Sol amb aquell decorat va ser un dels moments màgics de la nit.
I de tornada cap al Burn stage, l'escenari principal, per acabar de veure al mestre de techno més fosc, Dave Clarke, dur, contundent i amb la pista plena de gent. Tot seguit, a les 23:00, vam tornar a veure damunt de l'escenari principal de Monegros a Boys Noize, diversos anys després de la seva darrera actuació al desert, i va posar la pista del revés amb una sessió que recordava vagament a la de Sónar Barcelona, però que en cap moment se'ns va fer repetitiva o pesada. Va cabar i l'escenari principal es va haver de dividir en dues parts: la primera per muntar l'artefacte damunt del qual actuaria Skrillex, i la segona part de l'escenari acollia la sessió de Gaiser del segell Minus, però a Gaiser no va semblar afectar-lo massa ja que la seva actuació va ser genial, amb els sons característics del minimal i de Minus més concretament, i amb uns quants aires de tech-house.
Ara ens toca parlar d'Skrillex, i si haguéssim d'explicar el que allí vam viure, necessitaríem un post sencer en aquest blog només per fer-ho. Fa 9 anys consecutius que asistim al festival, som amants incondicionals del techno i damunt de l'escenari principal del desert hem vist als millors artístes de l'electrònica internacional, però el que va fer Skrillex allà està a l'altura de les millors actuacions que s'hi han vist. Genial, bestial, molt gran, és el gegant de l'EDM i el dubstep i va demostrar perquè mentre comandava la seva nau espacial. Podem estar d'acord en què la seva música es basa en sons possiblement desagradables a oïdes dels més puristes, i en loops de vocals que va llençant a discreció, sense deixar acabar els temes, però tot junt és una experiència adrenalínica que va arribar a fregar l'orgasme quan Asap Rocky va pujar-se a l'escenari per interpretar Wild for the night.

No sonava igual que a les seves produccions d'estudi, no hi havia tant acid ni tant descontrol a l'hora de llençar el drop, semblava com si els haguessin dit que es calmessin una mica, i ells van obeir. Tot i això, vam gaudir de la musica i vam ballar al ritme que marcaven les quatre mans d'aquests dos genis. I per fi el moment somiat de la nit, i és que 7 anys després de la seva última actuació al desert, tornàvem a tenir a la reina Mistress Barbara, i ens havia preparat un Special Techno Old School Set que no ens va deixar indiferents. I vam ballar i ballar sense importar-nos que el bombo sonés malament, o que se li notessin un parell de cavallets mentre mesclava mesclant les pistes, tot això donava igual perquè ella tornava a regnar damunt del desert i l'alegria repartida no la podíem trobar a cap altra banda del festival.
Per anar acabant ja les darreres actuacions, vam veure a Joseph Capriati rebentar el Burn Open Air amb un house molt dur mentre el Sol ja treia el cap per les nostres esquenes, i per acabar d'arrodonir-ho tot va aparèixer Chris Liebing, incombustible, sabia que la gent necessitava molt de ritme a aquelles hores i ell ho va fer possible a base de bombos contundents, fins que va arribar Ben Sims per substituir-lo amb un set replet de TEMAZOS que havien sonat al llarg dels darrers 10 anys de festival.
És cert que vam marxar d'alla amb una sensació una mica estranya, havíem gaudit molt de la nit, no ens enganyem, però aquest any el desert s'havia venut una mica a les masses que acompanyen a Skrillex, a Aoki, i al moviment que genera el club de elRow, així que podríem anar esperant un canvi progressiu en la que, fins al moment, havia estat la rave més gran del desert.
